Mike Dowling
Former Marine and Veteran Advocate
Actor/Producer
Author

Mr. Mike Dowling began his service career as a Military Police school Honor Graduate. Following a meritorious promotion, he was accepted into the elite Military Working Dog program, where he collaborated with the Secret Service to provide security and explosive detection support for the President of the United States. Mr. Dowling was also selected to join the first group of Marine Corps dog teams deployed to Iraq, operating in the infamous “Triangle of Death.” During his tour, Mr. Dowling was a key part of the team that, quite literally, rewrote the book on combat dogs in modern warfare as they were part of the first dog teams to operate on the front lines of combat since Vietnam. For his extraordinary actions, Mr. Dowling was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, a combat action ribbon, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal.

Upon completing his military service, Mr. Dowling entered the financial services industry, earning his Series 6, 63, and Life Agent licenses. It was during this period that he developed a passion for entrepreneurship and individual development.

In 2008, Mr. Dowling, still a Marine Corps reservist, was again called to serve. Mobilized and assigned to the Wounded Warrior Battalion-West, Naval Medical Center San Diego Detachment, he assumed the role of section leader for the rehabilitation of wounded, ill, and injured Marines. Mr. Dowling assisted and mentored Marines through their recovery processes, creating a particular focus on transitioning into the civilian workforce. Recognizing the success of his efforts, Mr. Dowling was selected by the Battalion for the billet of liaison. In this role, he created, coordinated, and facilitated all events and resources available to recovering Marines and their families, working closely with numerous non-profits and private entities. In 2010, Mr. Dowling completed his orders and honorably demobilized from the Marines. For his efforts at NMCSD, he was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

Mr. Dowling continues to dedicate his time to wounded Veterans. He serves on the advisory board of two wounded Veteran non-profits, actively participates in events that support wounded service men and women,  and has personally raised thousands of dollars in sponsorships to benefit wounded warrior causes.

Mr. Dowling’s compelling story prompted Simon & Schuster to publish his forthcoming book, Sergeant Rex: The Unbreakable Bond Between a Marine and His Military Working Dog, a recounting of his military dog experiences.  Additionally, he will also be featured in an upcoming Marine Corps K9 documentary. Mr. Dowling has also been retained as a consultant to the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and more for his knowledge of military service animals.

As a producer/actor he has worked on various projects working with Associated Television International, Veterans Affairs, documentaries, and feature films. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Mr. Dowling remains an active member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America.

As a distinguished combat Veteran, animal handling authority, transition and recovery specialist, and consummate liaison, the Thinkubator Team is honored to welcome Mr. Dowling for his expertise, his dedication, his service, and his courage.
