Jim Cathcart
Former President of the National Speakers' Association,
Best Selling Author and Professional Speakers’ Hall of Fame

Mr. Cathcart is, unquestionably, one of the most accomplished professional speakers in America. In a career spanning 34 years and most of the globe, Jim Cathcart has addressed over 2,700 audiences around the world, engaging nearly every major industry and profession. Most recently, international demand brought Jim before thousands of business leaders in Bogota, Colombia, Santiago, Chile, and Macau, China. While a researcher and philosopher at heart, Mr. Cathcart is also well grounded by his colorful history. Jim has worked in warehouses, driven trucks, sold donuts door to door, been a bank teller, played guitar in night clubs, and sold motorcycles.

Additionally, Jim Cathcart was an insurance agent, an Army officer, and a bill collector who, while in his twenties, repossessed logging trucks in the mountains of northern Arkansas. In 1972, Mr. Cathcart decided to become the foremost authority on motivation. And so, this young man, later described by some as “The Fonz” with a business degree, turned decades of dedication and hard work into the realization of his goal.

That same year, the radio presence of Earl Nightingale further inspired Jim Cathcart to change his approach to life. At that time, while working as a government clerk in the Urban Renewal Agency, Jim determined to learn psychology and master the process of self-improvement. Years of fanatical dedication afforded new skills. Mr. Cathcart became a certified trainer in a number of disciplines, studied mountainous stacks of books, attended countless seminars, and volunteered thousands of hours to civic organizations. Through this process, Jim progressed from clerk, to manager, to leader, to trainer, to author and, ultimately, to world renowned professional speaker.

Today Jim Cathcart is counted among the elite of his peers in the Professional Speakers’ Hall of Fame.  He is a recipient of the prestigious Golden Gavel Award, sharing such honor with the likes of Earl Nightingale, Art Linkletter, and Zig Ziglar. Mr. Cathcart has served as President of the National Speakers’ Association and received the Cavett Award for a Lifetime of Service. Jim has authored 15 books, including the national best sellers: Relationship Selling and The Acorn Principle. His breakthrough work with The Acorn Principle achieved best-seller status online, as well as through traditional hardbound book channels. In fact, it was the nation’s #2 best-selling e-book in the year 2000, second only to Stephen King.

In 2007, Mr. Cathcart was named one of “The Top 100 Minds on Personal Development” by Leadership Excellence magazine. In fact, the San Diego chapter of the National Speakers’ Association honored Mr. Cathcart by renaming their Member of the Year Award to “The Jim Cathcart Service Award.” Furthermore, the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the National Speakers’ Association bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award upon Mr. Cathcart in 2003. In 2008, Jim was named one of the “Legends of the Speaking Profession.” And, in 2010, Mr. Cathcart was distinguished as one of the “Top 5 Sales & Customer Service Speakers” by Speaking.com.

An active motivational speaker and prolific author, Jim Cathcart is also in high demand as an executive coach to numerous top-achievers. Jim serves on the Board of Advisors to the Schools of Business at both California Lutheran University and Pepperdine University. Mr. Cathcart’s articles can be seen on TSTN.com and DailySuccessStream.com.
